11:30am – 2:45pm: Solar Eclipse Viewing Party
Join Rangers and Volunteers for a special solar eclipse viewing party on the park peninsula from 11:30am to 2:45pm. Volunteers will be on hand to hand out special solar viewing glasses (limited supplies available on a first-come first-serve basis) and to share facts about the eclipse and the sun. The park store will be closed so please bring sunscreen, a chair or blanket, and a refillable water bottle or any other convenience items you may need during the program. If you have your own welding goggles or solar eclipse glasses please bring them with you.
Other Solar Eclipse Related Activities for August 21st:
9:30 – 10:00am: Phases of the Moon and How Eclipses Work
Learn about the different phases of the moon and why the moon appears to disappear and reappear each month in this interactive activity. We will also demonstrate the mechanisms of how lunar and solar eclipses occur to help prepare you for the solar eclipse later this same day (August 21st). We will meet at the park store, Sunset Marina for this half hour indoor program.
10:00 – 10:30am: The Birth, Life, and Death of a Star
Learn about the life cycle of stars during this 45 minute to one hour program. We will have a group activity where all of the visitors get together to act out the life cycle of a star. Rangers will share facts about the Sun that allows life to thrive here on Earth. This program will help you understand our own star, the Sun, better for the solar eclipse later this same day (August 21st).
